Welcome to this year's Homemade Christmas Gifts Series. We will feature nine homemade Christmas gift ideas over the next two weeks, so make sure you stay tuned to learn how to make some of these great gift items.
This week we will talk about how to create your own Homemade Sugar Scrub – this is the perfect gift for someone without having to spend that much money!
I love body scrubs. They smell great, they exfoliate, and they leave your skin soft and smooth. I never realized you could make your own body scrub or how simple that process was. And then one day, I made my own body scrub and I loved it! So I decided to whip up another batch and bottle it up as a crafty Christmas gift.
For the sugar scrub, you'll need some white sugar and brown sugar (about one-and-a-half cups of each), some olive oil and some vanilla extract (see recipe at the bottom of the entry). You'll also need a jar. You can use a wide-mouth pint-sized Mason jar or a hinged lid jar like the one pictured here. Finally, you'll need some cloth and a piece of ribbon.
Add equal parts white sugar and brown sugar until it fills your jar about half to three-quarters full.
Next, pour in some olive oil and mix it with the sugar until you achieve the desired consistency.
Using a sharp pair of scissors or a rotary cutter like the one I used here (which works amazingly well, I might add!), cut a square of cloth to the size needed to cover the top of your container. Instead of buying a whole yard of fabric, which is usually the minimum amount you can buy, you can save a few bucks by buying pre-cut fabric squares.
Once you've got the cloth on top and the ribbon tied, you're ready to give the gift of exfoliation. Like I said earlier, I used vanilla extract as the scent for this particular scrub, but feel free to use whatever extract you'd like for your own batch!
