    The thing that makes Bolognese so much more than a meat sauce is that much of the flavor comes from the holy food trinity of chopped celery, onions and carrots (called mirepoix, in case you’re interested).

    Sauteing these aromatic vegetables in the meat along with some garlic infuses some awesome flavors.

    Don’t be daunted by the amount of ingredients; I can almost guarantee that you have most of these in your pantry or spice cabinet. Honestly, the only “hard” part about making this sauce is chopping the vegetables.

    And adding milk? Yeah… don’t be afraid. But just make sure to use whole milk – you want that richness.

    Easy Bolognese Sauce

    Ingredients
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 lb ground sausage
    • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
    • 2 medium sized carrots, finely chopped
    • 1 medium onion, diced
    • 4-6 cloves garlic, pressed or minced
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 6 oz. tomato paste
    • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
    • 1 1/2 tsp oregano
    • 1 1/2 tsp basil
    • 1 tsp black pepper
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1/2 cup whole milk
    Instructions
    1. In a large sauce pan, combine sausage, beef, onions, carrots and celery and cook over medium heat.
    2. Brown meat, and then cook for another 10 minutes or so to soften vegetables.
    3. Add garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
    4. Drain meat.
    5. Add all other ingredients, bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes.
