Ok back to the recipe at hand…

    Here’s the play-by-play:

Butter and GarlicFirst, melt a half stick of butter in a sauce pan with some olive oil, and add a clove of chopped or pressed garlic. Saute the garlic for just a minute or two, and then add the milk to stop the garlic from cooking.

Cream CheeseOk – NOW here’s the secret ingredient – cream cheese! It makes it smooth, a little thicker, and adds a touch of sweetness. SO. GOOD. You might want to chop it into smaller cubes before you place it in the pan so that it melts faster.

Prime Cheese and SpicesGo ahead and add all the remaining ingredients, and slowly bring to a boil over low-medium heat.

    Finished Sauce

It helps to use a wire whisk while heating to break up the cream cheese and mix in the parmesan cheese. Once it starts to bubble and it smooth, it is ready to serve!

  • Hi – I followed to a T and it came out very thin and flavorless. When I read 1/2 stick I thought maybe you meant half the quarter stick (the way it comes packaged) but I see from the picture it is the full quarter. I did use shaved parmesan. Maybe I shoud’ve used the more powdery stuff to help thicken. Not sure what went wrong.

  • I might try this sometime. The cream cheese makes it sound interesting. I make one that my Mom’s made for years. Basically just butter, flour, salt, pepper, half & half, nutmeg, and parm. I like to add cayenne pepper sometimes for some spiciness.

  • Great sauce! I poured on bow tie pasta and added fresh kale. I love how the sauce is lighter in texture and not the traditional thick kind. Will definitely keep this one!
