Chicken Divan Recipe

This weeks Cooking with the FREE & Cheap Recipes is Chicken Divan.

Here on ‘I am THAT lady’ I want to show you that you can cook inexpensive and healthy meals for under $10.  The prices were taken from my local grocery store but you should find comparable prices at your local store, you can print this recipe by hitting the print icon on the bottom of this post.


Chicken Divan

Another go to meal that can always be made for under $10 and in less than 30 minutes!!!



  • 1 ½ cups of chicken, cooked and cubed – on sale at Big M for $1.69/lb
  • 16 oz bag of frozen broccoli – cost $1.59
  • 1 can of cream of broccoli soup -$0.69
  • 1/3 cup of milk- cost about $0.15
  • ½ cup sour cream – cost $0.50
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese – cost $0.90 from Aldi
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • Salt and pepper



  1. Cook broccoli according to package and chop up.
  2. Put the broccoli into an 8 inch square dish
  3. Top with chicken
  4. In a bowl mix together the milk, sour cream, and cream of broccoli soup.
  5. Pour over the chicken
  6. Top with cheese
  7. Mix together the melted butter and bread crumbs and sprinkle on top of cheese.
  8. Season with salt and pepper
  9. Cook at 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes.


Serve with rice – cost about $.50
