I have been looking around for some deck lighting this summer but it is SO expensive and not in our budget. I figured I could make my own for less money, so obviously I drove over to my favorite store,  Dollar Tree.

    supplies

Here is what I picked up for $12.00. I ended up not needing two of the clothespins packages so I am going to return them (or use them for chip clips).  I picked up clothespins, battery operated tea light candles, and cans of tuna fish.

    putting clothespins on

I emptied and washed out the tuna fish cans, and placed the clothespins around the outside of the can.  Then I added a battery operated tea light candle.

    kids working on project

This is the perfect DIY to get your kids involved.  They helped me make them all and we had a great time doing it together.  It was a very easy project for them to complete.

I then lined them up along the banister of my deck and waited for the sun to go down.

    Deck candles at night

Once it did, they glowed in the dark like real candles and looked beautiful outside!

I am so excited that I was able to create the romantic feel that I wanted around my deck… plus, it was a fun family project, and I spent only $10.00 doing it!
